The 12th International Conference on Ceramic Materials and Components for Energy and Environmental Applications (CMCEE 2018) brought together researchers, academics, and industry professionals to explore advances in ceramic technologies. Held at the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore, the conference centred on the theme "Ceramic Technologies for Sustainable Development."
CMCEE 2018 was jointly organized with the support of international endorsing bodies including The American Ceramic Society and the National University of Singapore. The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) served as the organizing body.
The conference programme featured plenary speakers, symposia across multiple tracks, and opportunities for abstract submission and presentation. Accepted abstracts were invited to register for the conference. Registration opened by 16 April 2018.
Attendees could explore accommodation options near the venue, with hotel booking links provided for convenience. Singapore served as a dynamic host city for this international gathering.

The global ceramics community has long recognized that materials innovation plays a central role in addressing pressing environmental and energy challenges. Conferences in this series provide a dedicated forum where researchers can share breakthroughs in processing, characterization, and application of advanced ceramic components. By bringing together participants from multiple continents, these gatherings encourage the kind of wide-ranging discussion that leads to new collaborations and accelerates the translation of laboratory discoveries into practical, eco-friendly technologies suitable for a rapidly changing world.
Sustainable development stands at a crossroads where population growth and rising standards of living drive ever greater demand for energy, transportation, housing, and industrial products. Ceramic materials offer unique advantages in this landscape, from high-temperature stability and chemical resistance to novel electrical and thermal properties. Exploring how these materials can improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact is a central theme that runs through the symposia, plenary presentations, and technical sessions designed to highlight both fundamental science and real-world applications.
The conference programme is structured to balance invited talks from leading experts with contributed presentations that showcase emerging research from around the globe. A carefully planned schedule allows attendees to engage deeply with topics spanning energy conversion, storage, environmental remediation, and sustainable manufacturing. Poster sessions and networking breaks complement the formal agenda, creating an environment where informal exchange of ideas can flourish alongside the structured technical programme and where early-career researchers can connect with established figures in the field.
Beyond the lecture halls, such international gatherings serve an important function in strengthening the bonds that hold the ceramics research community together. Joint organization by academic institutions and professional societies ensures broad endorsement and a rigorous peer-review process for accepted abstracts. Participants leave not only with new knowledge but also with a renewed sense of shared purpose — a collective commitment to developing the advanced materials that will help society navigate the delicate balance between economic growth and the protection of fragile ecosystems.
